Mr. Alex "Sam" Szabo, 95, of Tovey, IL died at 2:58 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Taylorville Estates.
He was born in Tovey, IL November 27, 1928, the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Molnar) Szabo, Sr.
Mr. Szabo was a faithful member of St. Rita's Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of both The Knights of Columbus where he served as Recording Secretary, Third Degree and the American Legion Post 905 all in Kincaid, IL. He was a member of the Taylorville V.F.W. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. He served for 37 years as the Tovey Village Clerk, and a great many years as the Financial Secretary of the Tovey Water Department. Sam as he was affectionately known to many, was one of the original founders of Midland Community Bank where he served as a Director from 1967 to 2024. Mr. Szabo worked briefly for Peabody Mine #8 and retired from Fiat-Allis in Springfield, IL as Payroll Clerk after 27 years there. He loved his Chicago Cubs and the Vi
