Ronald W. SmithApril 1, 1956 - March 17, 2025It's with heavy hearts we share that we lost our beloved husband and father, Ronald W. Smith (born April 1, 1956), 68 years old, of Stonington, Ill., on March 17, 2025.Ron grew up in Decatur, on N 35th St., the youngest of four siblings and attended the 2nd Church of God, graduating from Lakeview High School in 1974.He soon joined the Navy in 1976 where he was in Japan, Australia, and was aboard the USS Francis Hammond in 1978 when they rescued several Vietnamese refugees. His crew was also aboard the USS America when they fought in the 1980 battle Operation Eagle Claw in Iran.After his service to our country, Ron worked for Bodine Electric in Decatur with the electrician skills obtained in the Navy. He also worked for Warner Ishi in Shelbyville working on turbo chargers, as well as for the Christian County Sheriff's Office Reserve and Kincaid Police Department as a Police Officer.In 1990, he was the first class of Correctional Officers to
